At JCP Solicitors we are proud to be supporters of the LGBTQ+ community and we are constantly seeking to do more in our approach to equity, equality, diversity and inclusion.
Our teams across our offices throughout South and West Wales are on hand to give professional guidance on a full roster of key legal issues. We will help you make informed choices in a friendly, supportive and professional setting.
If you would like to do so, please make us aware of your pronouns when you get in touch, and we will do all we can to respect these as we understand this is of paramount importance. Our systems also recognise the title Mx, an honorific that does not indicate gender.
Our services for LGBTQ+ individuals include:
Purchasing a new home is a huge deal for most people, but it’s something we handle daily. Let our experienced property lawyers guide you through the process with ease, giving you peace of mind knowing that you are supported by accredited professionals. We understand the importance of communication, so we will keep you updated in the way that suits you best, whenever you need it.
Lifetime Planning – Including Wills, Probate and Lasting Powers of Attorney
Planning in our lifetime is important for all of us, no matter our age. It is even more important to put legal documents in place if you are transitioning or cohabiting with a life partner. If you have a child together, it is vital to get tailored legal advice around this issue, since family arrangements can be complex. It is important to remember that if you marry or enter into a civil partnership, this will automatically revoke any earlier Wills made, unless they were made in contemplation of marriage or civil partnership.
For couples who separate following co-habitation or those in a marriage or civil partnership who have decided to hold off getting officially divorced, this can be a complicated and emotional time. Whether or not there are substantial assets or liabilities involved, we will be able to act for you. Separation Agreements can help to regulate what will happen in terms of your property, assets and income by recording any agreement that you have reached in writing. The Agreement will set out the financial position of both of you and will record what it is that you both want to happen with your assets, income and any liabilities.
Divorce/ Ending a Civil Partnership
We understand that going through a divorce or ending a civil partnership can be a very unsettling and challenging point in your life, especially when there are children and/or money involved. So, let us take the weight off your shoulders. We understand the stress and uncertainty which commonly arises when two people who may have spent years or even decades living together decide to separate. We can provide you with sensitive but practical advice about your options and help you avoid conflict wherever possible.
Moving in together is a great occasion, however, you may want to try to regulate what will happen in terms of financial matters in the event that your relationship breaks down. Cohabitation Agreements can help you achieve this and are popular in relationships where either party already has substantial assets such as a house or large savings, and where there are children involved whose interests you are trying to protect.
Changing Your Name – As part of gender re-assignment
The process of getting your gender legally changed is a different one from that of simply changing your name, it requires a separate legal process. To do this you would have to apply to the UK Gender Recognition Panel for a Gender Recognition Certificate. We are on hand to give professional guidance to help with the application and legalities surrounding this. Please be assured that all of our clients are treated with respect and understanding.
Recent figures reveal that the number of parents welcoming a
baby via surrogacy in England and Wales in the last decade has almost
quadrupled. Current law can be a slow process, fraught with insecurity for the
surrogate (the woman carrying the child) and the ‘intended parents’ – the
people or person who plans to raise the child. Provision should also be
included within your Will to provide for Guardianship and inheritance following
the birth and before a Parental Order has been made. Our Family team can offer
specialist advice on this complex life choice.
JCP Solicitors are recognised as one of the leading accident
